Burrell's Mercedes Learn to Drive Car

Finally passed my driving test thanks to Steph. I had started learning to drive a few years ago but Uni was starting so gave it up. Steph has recently helped me to complete my driver training and I'm pleased to say I passed first time.

Frequently Asked Questions

We know that learning to drive can be a daunting but very exciting experience. We want to make the process as enjoyable for you as possible and to ensure you are a safe and confident driver for years to come.

There might be many questions you have about learning to drive, we have compiled just a few below. If your question isn't answered here then please submit your own question below and we will get back to you.

You need to be at least 17 years old and have a provisional driving licence from the DVLA before starting driving lessons. However, if you receive the enhanced rate of the mobility component of Personal Independence Payment (PIP), you can start at 16.

The number of lessons varies, but on average, most learners in the UK need about 45 hours of lessons with an instructor, plus 22 hours of private practice. At Burrell’s School of Motoring we will teach you at a pace that suits you, we won’t purposefully hold you back to get more money out of you but we will be honest if we think you are not quite ready for your test. We want to make sure you have the knowledge and skills to be able to pass first time.

No, you can start your practical driving lessons with Burrell’s School of Motoring before passing the theory test, although it is beneficial to study both simultaneously. We will do our best to help you with your theory test while you are completing your practical driving lessons by asking you questions, pointing out hazards and highlighting road signs and markings.

Study materials include the official DVSA driving theory test kit, highway code, and practice tests are available online or through mobile apps. Our learner resources page will provide you with additional help and advice on passing the theory test.

Yes, we will do all of your practical lessons in our dual-control Mercedes A-Class therefore it makes sense to do your test in this car because you will be most comfortable in it. When it is time to book your test we will arrange a suitable time to be able to use the car when it isn’t booked by other learners.

You can book your driving test online through the official UK government website at gov.uk. You can also find direct links to the booking portal on our learner resources page.

Yes, you need a provisional driving licence to take any behind-the-wheel driving lessons.

At Burrell’s School of Motoring, we recommend you have 2-4 hours of lessons per week, depending on your schedule and learning progress.

You’ll be learning to drive in our beautiful Mercedes-Benz A-Class. Designed with advanced safety features and unparalleled comfort, the A-Class is perfect for new drivers. Its sleek, stylish exterior is matched by a cutting-edge interior featuring a fully digital cockpit, voice-activated controls, and intuitive infotainment systems. With a smooth ride and responsive handling, this car ensures every lesson is both enjoyable and educational. Equipped with the latest driver-assistance technology, such as active brake assist and lane-keeping assist, the Mercedes A-Class provides peace of mind for learners and instructors alike.

Yes, instructors at Burrell’s School of Motoring are certified by the DVSA and undergo rigorous training and background checks.

Yes, you can take multiple lessons per day if your schedule allows and there are no clashes with other learners. Driving lessons can be tiring as there is a lot of concentration involved, therefore, we recommend keeping lessons to a maximum of 2 hours per day which ensures you are fully rested for each lesson.

No, at Burrell’s School of Motoring we do not offer intensive courses. We believe that making lifelong drivers that have built up their driving knowledge and skill over time is the best way to teach. We want all our learner drivers to leave us confident in their driving ability. Although we understand there is often a need to complete an intensive course, it is not something that we would be able to dedicate time to as we have many other learners who will need lessons throughout the week.

If you fail your driving test, you can retake it after at least 10 working days. It's important to practice and review the areas where you made mistakes before retaking the test, therefore, we would arrange some additional lessons to review and reteach the areas of the test where you failed. For many people, the test itself can be very nerve-wracking and just being in the car with someone else, who just so happens to be assessing you, can massively impact your concentration and decision making.

Yes, many learner drivers start with no prior driving experience. Our instructors are trained to teach beginners and ensure safety throughout the learning process. We’ll work at your pace, some learner drivers pick it up really quickly and others need a little more time. We won’t hurry you and we certainly won’t hold you back.

You need to bring your provisional licence and your theory test pass certificate.

You can apply for a provisional driving licence online through the official UK government website (gov.uk) or by post. You will need to provide proof of identity and pay the required fee. You can find a direct link to apply for your provisional license on our learner resources page.
